One of the best known of France's classical horsemen, General Decarpentry () wrote Piaffer and Passage in while at Saumur. This title offers a written framework for a logical, methodical programme of dressage in the classical French tradition. This piaffe shows the hindquarters carrying more weight and the forehand being lifted and lightened. This piaffe can turn into a levade as seen in Figure 6, which would show more classical collection and weight shift than that in Figure 4. For more information, see my book Dressage for the 21 st Century, available at Xenophon Press.

Piaffer and passage by Albert EugeМЂne EМЂdouard Decarpentry Download PDF EPUB FB2

Piaffer and Passage includes a discussion on the order to teach these movements, the detailed development of each of these movements, including important tests to determine if the horse is understanding and has been prepared in a systematic way.5/5(1).

It is explained how the systematic work from beginning on Hand through Piaffe to all different transitions in Piaffe and Passage leads to success. This book was published in in Germany and because of the feedback from my fellow trainers, international and national dressage riders, I decided to publish this book in English and therefore make it available to a larger dressage.

Piaffe and Passage Cynthia F. Hodges, JD, LLM, MA The passage is a very collected and suspended trot. The horse jumps off of the ground with very cadenced strides. Of course, flying changes and canter pirouettes also count as upper level movements, but I find passage and piaffe more mysterious, so I'll save the canter work for later.

Once the horse has mastered the fundamentals, he's ready to start upper level movements. The piaffe and passage are movements exercised by horses while being ridden in the upper-levels of the discipline known as Dressage. Horses execute these movements - in some sense - whilst at liberty (i.e.

- under no control or restraints by humans), but in Dressage they are much more refined and precise. The transition from passage to piaffe is the easier transition, but the horse’s challenge in this is to find the piaffe rhythm, which is almost always quicker.

To ask for piaffe, bring your leg back a bit as a signal, and then ask for smaller steps by giving a small rein aid and pushing against it : Hubertus Schmidt.

You can even increase and decrease within piaffe and passage. Piaffe, the movement that epitomizes collection in dressage, is trained in stages, and the beginning stage is half steps.

These are shorter trot steps, somewhere between collected trot and piaffe. There are many different ways to begin training half steps. Piaffer et Passage, first published in in French, was written to address the perceived weaknesses in international-level French riders and horses.

Decarpentry gives unique insights from his personal experience, training his horse Professeur in these difficult :   I usually teach piaffe before passage, although I rarely turn down passage if a horse offers it on his own in a situation where he can be controlled.

On the occasion that a horse offers passage, I will reinforce it with my aids along with a special cluck that I use only when I want : Hilda Gurney. The Passage (The Passage, #1), Justin Cronin. The Passage is a novel by Justin Cronin, published in It is the first novel of a completed trilogy; the second book The Twelve was released inand the third book The City of Mirrors released in /5.

This book is a time capsule containing the history of the great riders and traditions of the Spanish School, including masters from the beginning of the nineteenth century.

The piaffe (French pronunciation: [pjaf]) is a dressage movement where the horse is in a highly collected and cadenced trot, in place or nearly in place. The center of gravity of the horse should be more towards the hind end, with the hindquarters slightly lowered and great bending of the joints in the hind legs.

Reading books to find out about the classical aids is great, but ultimately you and your horse need to be ready both physically and mentally. Applying the aids and using a whip from the ground may elicit something resembling passage or piaffe, but unless you and your horse know what you are doing, and are both skilled and strong enough, I can.

Piaffe/Passage differences: then and now. Nov. 29,PM I just watched the Robert Dover freestyle video someone pointed out on youtube, as well as the freestyle from which was linked from that video, and it reminded me of something I've been wondering about after watching some other older GP dressage videos.

Piaffer and Passage by Albert Eugene Edouard Decarpentry, available at Book Depository with free delivery worldwide.5/5(2). Passage – Piaffe. I am currently training a purebred Spanish horse, this since 2 years.

Lately, I am stuck in my training because of a lack of impulsion in Passage and at the beginning of Piaffe. The inside hind leg has a hard time to engage under the body of the horse and therefore the left diagonal is less active than the right diagonal. There are some horses who work from passage back to piaffe, but those have rarely been worked in hand first, but it tends to create added tension.

In any case, only a few steps in the first requests (in hand work first stop/go (halt/walk/halt/walk merely from lowering/raising the whip) and lots of reward for any effort.Piaffer and passage.
